Family history is a touchy subject for many people. Unfortunately, many people did not win the family or parent lottery. These people often feel shame for belonging to these less than perfect social dynamics. These people have family dynamics which were unhealthy as they were growing up. Some of these negative family dynamics can be more obvious such as violence and abuse or they can be more subtle such as lack of love and attention. In any case, the result may often be the same, a feeling of shame that can put your self worth into question. Without moving past these negative feelings, you may relive feelings of insignificance which hold you back from doing the best and becoming the best that you can be. Remember;
- You are not your past. You are not the things that happen to you, you are much greater than that. An event or a collection of events cannot describe the infinite possibility contained inside of you!
- You can choose what you will be defined by. Every day is a new opportunity to do this.
- Jealousy is a destructive force. If you meet someone who had a perfect cookie cutter upbringing, embrace them, learn from them so that you can emulate them and rewrite your story.
Ask yourself, how can I use this to my benefit? Your imperfect story might just be a way for you to be a blessing to others.
